Co Ong Airport is located on Con Dao Island on the shore of Ba Ria Vung Tau province. It was formerly a military airbase, but now it is also used to receive civil flights. At present, the airport can only receive small civil flight such as ATR72 or Fokker 70, but considerable investment has been made by the government to enhance the capability of this airport to serve bigger aircrafts such as AirBus A320/A321.
VASCO (Vietnam Airlines) operates ATR72-500 service on this route so overhead bin space is limited. Depending on your ticket VASCO/Vietnam Airlines will allow 20kg free baggage (Excess baggage is relatively inexpensive by international standards). Every week Vasco organize 28 – 30 flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao Island and 4 other flights from Can Tho on ( Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun ). The costs for one way trip on these routes is approximately 1.705.000 VND for Ho Chi Minh City – Con Dao Island trip and 1.375.000 VND for Can Tho – Con Dao Island trip. The time depature from Saigon at 05: 55 AM, 08:10 AM, 09:20 AM, 11:35 AM every day, and take 1 hours for flight time, and from Can Tho depar at 12:35, arrival at 13:30, the flight time is 55’.
